How it came about
I loved being creative from a very young age - getting my hands dirty, painting, and crafting. I was always aware of how easily creativity came for some, but not for others, including myself. Yet everyone always enjoys expressing themselves.
I’m not a professional artist, but after a difficult season in my own life, including relocating to Johannesburg, I realised how calming and therapeutic art had become for many of my friends and for me. It is so important to give ourselves time off. No screen, no pressure, and no feeling that I must produce… Just time spent doing something simply because it feels good.
I wanted to combine my love for functional art with my admiration for South African artists. Creating beautiful pieces that have a purpose, a story, and above all, will become something that I made with my own hands and can proudly display afterwards.
Inspired by the ease of paint-by-numbers, I created a brand, Paintcha. A product that is proudly made in South Africa, in small batches — and, even better, its main ingredient is recycled plastic collected from our very own rivers and beaches.
Paintcha was created for people like you and me who want to make a one-of-a-kind artwork that they can proudly display without the pressure of starting from a blank page. It offers just enough guidance to help you create with confidence, yet the freedom to make it unique and your own.
Every Paintcha piece is designed to be painted slowly, displayed proudly, and kept.
From me to you, enjoy!
