What is Paintcha?
Paintcha is a beginner-friendly, sculpted, artist-led paint-by-numbers kit. Each piece is created in collaboration with a South African artist, then sculpted into a textured, numbered artwork for you to paint, then display, gift or keep. A relaxing, creative activity with adults in mind.
Is it a paint-by-numbers kit?
Yes, Paintcha is a guided-by-numbers activity, but with a more sculptural and design-led feel. You follow the artwork step by step, while still creating a finished piece that feels personal to you.
Do I paint it myself?
Yes. Your selected Paintcha piece arrives ready for you to paint. The numbered areas and instructions guide you through the process, so you can take your time and let the artwork come to life at your own pace.
Do I need to be artistic?
Not at all. Paintcha is made for guided, pressure-free creativity. You do not need painting experience, but you do need to embrace a challenge — just a little time, a comfortable space, and the willingness to enjoy the process.

Does it come with instructions?
Yes. Each kit includes easy-to-follow instructions to guide you through the painting process, from your first colour to the final details.
Do I need to buy anything extra?
No. The kit includes the essentials needed to complete your Paintcha piece. We suggest setting up with a small cup of water, a cloth or paper towel, and good light so you can paint comfortably.
The Painting Process
How long does it take to complete a piece?
It depends on your pace, your chosen piece, and how you like to paint. Some people may finish theirs in a long afternoon, while others may enjoy it slowly over a few days. If you choose to complete it in one sitting, we suggest allowing around 6–8 hours, depending on the design difficulty and your painting style.
Can I finish it over a few days?
Yes. Paintcha is made for slow creativity. You can finish your piece in one sitting, or return to it over a few quiet moments whenever you have time. Be sure to close your paints properly to avoid them drying out!
What if I make a mistake?
Small imperfections are part of making something by hand. If you make a mistake you would like to correct, paint over the mistake with the white paint provided, allow it to dry, and paint it with the correct colour.
Is Paintcha suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our sculpted paint-by-numbers kits are designed to be beginner-friendly, with numbered areas and instructions to help you through each stage of the process.
Is Paintcha suitable for children?
Paintcha is designed with adults and older children in mind. We recommend adult guidance for younger painters, especially when working with paint and small details.
Materials & Sustainability
What is the piece made of?
Paintcha pieces are made using a percentage of recycled plastic collected from rivers and beaches in South Africa, which is then transformed into our small-batch textured art pieces.
Each piece carries both an artistic story and a material story — something discarded, thoughtfully reimagined into something to make and keep.
Why recycled plastic?
We love the idea of giving discarded material an expressive second life. By using recycled plastic as our base in our products, Paintcha brings together creativity, texture, and a thoughtful approach to sustainability.
Will every piece look exactly the same?
Paintcha products are hand-made in small batches with recycled materials, so slight variations like colour or finish may occur. We see these subtle differences as part of the charm of the process — a reminder that each piece has passed through real hands.
Artists & Collaborations
Which artists do you collaborate with?
We collaborate with amazing South African artists whose work brings colour, character and a distinct creative point of view to Paintcha. Each collaboration is carefully translated into a hand-carved piece that customers can paint and make their own.
Are you open to working with new artists?
We are always interested in meaningful, creative collaborations. If you are a South African artist and feel your work could contribute creatively to the Paintcha world, you are welcome to get in touch.
